Disposable cell phones and email-anonymizers are old tech. It's especially easy to get disposable (pre-paid) cell phones in a city like New York. Many MSM journalists (and even some bloggers) use these. Of course if an e-mail was produced, it could be called a fake. If an audio recording was produced it could be called a fake. If they had a relationship, Russert wanted it not to be easily verifiable and it will probably never be. Basically, it's a matter of whether or not Tim Russert felt there was some truth to what Hal Turner says on his show. Two people know the answer to that question, but only one of them is still living. Hal says:

Tim and I met in 1997 when I ran the campaign of Murray Sabrin for US Senate.

We know that likely is a fact. If you're running a campaign for a Republican in the NJ/NY area for US Senate, odds are you've met Tim Russert. The only thing we don't know for certain is the following:

We stayed in touch over the years.

Did they meet? Very likely yes. Very likely they talked more than once. Did they stay in touch after the '97 Murray Sabrin campaign? We don't know for sure. Keep in mind that this:

Didn't happen till after those 90's years. So it's hard to prove or disprove what happened to all of Hal Turner's relationships once he got his own radio show and started spewing overtly racist talk.

Hal Turner was tight with Sean Hannity, however. Turner was a favored caller on Hannity’s radio show in the ’90s.

I agree with Independent Conservative that it’s possible that he could have been associated with the likes of Hal Turner. Gwen Iffes made a comment once that Tim Russet supported the likes of Don Imus. She made the comment to his face and he really did not deny it. She was on meet the press around the time of the Imus mess.

I don’t find it so implausible that Tim Russert could have been friends with Hal Turner.

- Both in NY
- Both White (Both of Irish ancestry)
- Both Roman Catholics
- Both in media
- Russert was a regular on Don Imus’ radio show until Imus became nuclear to the media when he made the statement that got him fired.
- NBC’s news division has been cited in the past for issues of race.

I’m not saying Turner is right, but I won’t assume he’s lying either.
