The lawsuit was frivolous, but I feel it all started because the Osteen’s acted like Prima donnas instead of being humble themselves.

Really there was no “right” in this case, because they all were doing wrong.

The flight attendant really looked silly claiming her most severe injury from this pushing/shoving incident was hemmrhoids. Never heard of that happening to anyone else who was pushed or shoved and I’m sure that is why the jury didn’t buy it either. And the fact that she from the onset, said “I am suing for 10% of her net worth” only shows that this was about money and nothing more. Sistah gurl thought she had seen an instant payday, but it didn’t happen.

Also, I read yesterday that 3 first class passengers testified and said that they did not witness Victoria Osteen assault or touch the flight attendant. The flight attendant should be embarassed and set down somewhere as she made black women look ‘lazy and crazy’ with her ridiculous lawsuit.

Ms. Brown may have her job for now, but her employer knows somebody like her can be bad for business. They won’t fire someone who is lawsuit hungry right away (I mean they don’t want a lawsuit against them :D ), but I think they’re going to create a way to make her desire to leave on her own, or find a rock solid means to dump her later.

It’s a shame that the Osteens had to pay a fine to the FAA based on this foolishness. Now that they have been vindicated, they should request their money be returned and the flight attendant be fined (and made to pay double) for clearly intiating a false claim.

Victoria Osteen should also seek reimbursement of her attorney’s fees. By hitting this golddigger in the pocket, where it hurts, she will stop this mess, as CNN reported that she made a similar false allegation against another flight attendant back in 1995.

I agree with Diva, there should be SOME type of punitive damages in this case! This lady wad definitely a nut job who needs to learn her lesson regarding these frivilous lawsuits! She makes it harder for more people to come forward with true instances!

Not to get off subject, had anyone heard more information between the hairspray girl and the ANTM fight?

The Osteens did not have to pay the FAA fine. They could have contested the fine and THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A FULL HEARING TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE. Their paying the FAA was a form of admission of guilt. The civil case is a totally separate matter, no they won’t be getting a dime back from the FAA, nor should they. They could have contested the FAA fine for a full hearing if they wanted, but they did not. The civil case has absolutely nothing to do with the FAA.

Ms. Brown has been humiliated, yet another lawsuit would not be of any good at all. It would make Victoria Osteen look highly vindictive and at this point, all is best left to lay where it is, than to stir up anything else.

I mean these folks claim to follow Jesus. This has to stop here and now.

And unless Ms. Brown had a lawyer who was working pro-bono for publicity’s sake, she’s got a fresh legal bill coming her way, that she’s probably not well able to afford.

The statement I read from the Osteens regarding paying the FAA fine was that they didn’t agree with it, they simply paid it to try and put the whole thing behind them.

It did take 3 years for this case to go to trial, so I’m sure by them not having paid the fine when they did, all sorts of interest and non-payment penalties would have been added, so in a sense they were wise to pay the fine, but I doubt they did so with the intention of admitting any wrongdoing.

I don’t think Victoria Osteen would look vindictive in any way. I mean Ms. Brown initially claimed she got hemmrhoids as a result of being shoved and elbowed. I notice now they don’t mention the hemmrhoids anymore as I’m sure at trial it was medically proven that it was impossible for her to receive hemmrhoids as a result of being shoved and elbowed. She also claimed she suffered post-traumatic stress disorder, which also wasn’t proven. Not to mention that Ms. Brown and her attorneys were seeking 10% of Victoria Osteen’s net worth… not a specific dollar amount based on supposed injuries.

Victoria Osteen was clearly targeted because she was a woman of means. Had she been the average Jane flying first class, Ms. Brown wouldn’t have been so bold as to file such a claim. As a result, Victoria Osteen has wasted many days in court and possibly hundreds of thousands on attorney fees as Sr. Partners make on average (in my area) $500-$800 an hour (and that does not by the way include payment for their support staff .. secretaries, paralegals, etc). I wouldn’t fault her at all or think she was being petty or vindictive if she asked her attorneys to recoup some if not all of what she’s lost in this fiasco.

Even in cases where attorneys who work on contingency (most personal injury attorneys do) and take the case without payment unless they win at trial (and then they get a third), their clients can still be sued and made to pay the other party’s attorney fees if it comes out that they have filed a false claim or frivoulous lawsuit.

We all agree Ms. Brown taking this to court was a money grab.

Plenty of people say they plead guilty to a crime for whatever reason, but it’s still a plea of guilty versus maintaining innocence. Just as if you pay a speeding ticket without going to court, you’ve admitted guilt. Maybe you pay the speeding ticket because you don’t want to take time off from work to sit in traffic court all day, but still to pay is a guilty plea by default.

The Osteen’s have money, as we well know. For them to seek some money would be totally vindictive in response. Why can’t they just feel cheated and leave it at that? I say this because we are talking about people who claim to follow Christ, so 1 Corinthians 6 has to be considered. Perhaps if the Osteen’s were somehow left financially unstable and having trouble maintaining a household over this, them seeking to recover some money might look less vindictive. At some point, somebody in this should actually love their enemy.

And if the Osteen’s took Brown to court, anything she’s actually got might be less than the cost of keeping this up. Keep in mind, even OJ has not paid much of the money he was supposed to pay.

I’m sure they will take the high road and put it behind them.

I read an interesting article though that predicts that as this economy worsens more and more people will file personal injury lawsuits and workman’s comp. claims in an attempt to supplement their income.

The article also listed some data to show that the numbers of these claims appear to be on the rise nationwide. It is downright scary when you think about it. If your house looks ‘too nice’ people can walk on by and claim they slipped and fell on your ‘uneven’ sidewalk.

I know a lady who was working at the post office and another employer. She hurt her back(so called) at the Post office job so she sued them. Then she sued the other job that she was working for saying the fumes from teh cleaning supplies gave her asthma. She was a janitor at the other job.

Instead of these employers fighting her, they chose to be done with it and just pay her out. That’s a hot mess! I wish those companies would have fought her back. Not hatin’, just wished the right thing could have taken place.

Usually these people who initiate these false complaints fail to realize that they will one day reap what they have sown.
