Twitter really has something on its hands with some of its abusers. I just received the following Twitter invite from a clearly disturbed person whose initials are MF843. I won’t give her full Twitter name because she’s obviously seeking attention:
My boyfriend treats me like s*** so I need someone else to treat me right and f*** me well.
The first time she contacted me, I ignored her. It was clear that she had nothing to say but at least she was not being vulgar. This time I blocked her.
And that’s something I do like about Twitter. You can block a person right away, upon them contacting you.
I want to alert everyone that you need to be careful to select who you will follow and who you will allow to follow you. I’ve blocked many individuals.
Never follow someone on Twitter just because they are following you. The goals should never be to just keep accepting followers so that you can have a million followers, for example. Some people are so weird that you should not even want them following you on Twitter or anywhere else.
When I get the opportunity, I plan to engage in a Twitter cleansing. I will go through and “unfollow” some of the people I’ve been following because I find I have no interest in their comments.
Some people talk constantly on Twitter and it amounts to drivel and nonsense. They have an audience. Twitter really attracts attention whores. But now that the novelty has worn off for me, I plan to be more and more selective regarding who I will follow and who I will allow to follow me.
You do the same. Your time is valuable.

Amen. I am not really on there like that. I get requests from time to time and sometimes it’s from people I don’t even know. I don’t accept invites from people unless I actually know them. This also elminates the foolishness.
The reason I accept/follow people I don’t know is because the purpose of Twitter is to expand your base and your knowledge.
For example, I get a lot of news and story leads.
I also follow some people who have interesting things going on and I enjoy reading what they have to say.
So you don’t need to know the people. If you are in publishing or in business you could meet some really good contacts and networking situations.
I just advise folks to be careful who they do choose to follow.
I don’t have a Twitter account and really don’t see what the big deal is about it. I don’t need the world to know what I’m doing at all times. I hear people at work talking about getting “tweeted”" and wondering why everyone needed to know that??? I don’t think it’ll last long, but I’ve been known to be wrong.
I would say that very few people use it to tell what they are doing. Twitter has evolved.
I never use it to say what I’m doing. I use it to give really quick, snappy opinions and I primarily use it for news information and story ideas.
In fact, I just read my CNN Twitter and got a story idea that I’m working on at this moment.
Cowards annoy me. They always have. If you have something to say to me, BE MAN OR WOMAN ENOUGH TO DO SO ON THIS FORUM!
This coward, Shawna999, was not woman enough to come to the discussion forum. She hid behind a fake email address [which she created to contact me via email and quickly destroyed]. That is cowardice to the maximum, folks!
First of all, Shawna999 of the fake email account, thanks for continuing to support this forum by hanging onto my every word–the words of a “high horse”. I appreciate that! Keep reading, okay? After all, this IS the best blog on the internet.
Secondly, what does this article have to do with the fact that people need to stop putting their public Twitter accounts on private? I stand by that. It’s ridiculous and they don’t have anything that deep going on.
I was clear that Twitter allows a person to block unwanted annoyances. In fact, if you tried to join me, I’d block you.
Now keep on reading, okay?
