Prosperity Preachers, Paula and Randy White Seek Divorce

by Lynn on August 25, 2007

in Breaking News, Church News, General

For the second time in less than 72 hours, the Body of Christ has been hit by surprising news. First, it was the revelation that Bishop Thomas weeks had savagely attacked, kicked, punched and stomped Juanita Bynum, his wife.

Now we discover that the “prosperity ministers” Randy and Paula White are seeking a divorce.

“It’s the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make in my entire life,” he told the congregation, describing Paula as an exceptional woman, mother and preacher. Source

Not only did this couple preach prosperity, but they offered the hope that Christians can have it all, including a perfect marriage. They offered marriage counseling, retreats, and so on.

They blame two lives going in different directions.

Randy, however, said he takes “100 percent responsibility” for the breakup.

“I want to apologize for the poor decisions I’ve made in my life, to my congregation and to the body of Christ,” he told The Tampa Tribune. “I think I’ve let a lot of people down.”

Those regrets, he said, include how he has treated some people, lifestyle changes and being seen in public with women other than his wife, even if it was innocent. Source

What the Bynum-Weeks and White situations have in common is the fact that the women in the relationship are far more well known and popular than are their spouses. One can’t help but wonder if that had anything to do with the drift in those relationships.

Paula White was by most accounts a more popular preacher than her husband and had her own TV ministry. And although Without Walls is an independent Pentecostal church, not bound by denominational standards on divorce, some of which are quite strict, divorce is still generally frowned on by Pentecostals. This is the second divorce for both Randy and Paula White. Link

This is sad news. Hopefully all involved in these situations will come out with a testimony that can help others. I believe Juanita especially will be even more powerful in reaching women and empowering them once she heals emotionally and physically.

Peace

I hate to see anyone get divorced. And when the high profile people have such problems (when they’ve been teaching others how to fix their problems) it’s actually discouraging.
It’s also somewhat shocking because you see these people on TBN and elsewhere and they give the picture of happiness and contentment. They need to be more up front and honest. That way, when the news hits, people won’t feel they’ve been hit by a boulder.

what is really happening to the Body of Christ? are we yielding to serve the creature rather Than the creator? is it to much prosperity thats getting in the way of us living faithful to our Lord and Savior? Is there any real balance to family matters in & out of ministry? to what we preach & teach each day or is it a part of acting? like we see on TV ,or is it a special news report to get a saints attention briefly for a few moments.it’s things that happen like this that causes those who aren’t as strong not to believe or back side into the world again.PLEASE REVIEW ROMS 12:1&2 ACTS 3:19 & REV.2:1-7,james 1:22-25 these few simple scriptures that should have been apart of our natural saintly lives be before stepping into any ministry.

“They need to be more up front and honest”
Thank You!!
Let’s just tell the truth & shame the devil!
I receive monthly Impartation DVD’s (yes, I got one for the month of July)from Bishop Weeks.
And not a hint of trouble (I will be watching them again later tonight!) His February impartation he talks about how on a recent trip to London, Juanita gifted him with an expense watch from Harrod’s. He explains how the watch is a symbol of changing seasons and times. Whoa!
I have no comment on divorce in the church. The Body of Christ, is confused enough on that subject. I’ve refused to debate that one long ago.
My issue is, why lie about the state of your marriage. No, you don’t have to reveal that you have some issues. I really don’t need to hear all your business. Unless, it comes in the form of a testimony, for struggling couples. But, don’t lie about it either.
I’m outraged that I have recently view Paula and Randy on TBN, speaking on their love and how they are more in love now than when they first met. And how dare Juanita and Thomas offer mentorship to couples in the ‘Ministry of Love’. Didn’t someone think to cancel the ‘Teach Me How To Love You’ conference, until they learned how to love one another? It’s mess like this, that makes the whole Body of Christ look like a bunch of idiots. Come Monday morning, I’ve got to go to work and explain to all the co-workers, I’ve been witnessing to, what happened to all that truth and love, I’ve been talking about. Talk about false advertisement!!
Jesus! pleassssssse take the wheel!

Chelle brings out great points about the deception that many pastors subject members to. The deception is what causes such a rumble in the churches and even shock when they hear bad news about the various ministers.

Be certain to check out Chelle’s blog: http://coloredgirlswhohaveconsidered.blogspot.com/

She has an excellent angle from which she deals with the Bynum-Weeks saga. She actually typed out two pages of a book that Thomas Weeks wrote. Some of his comments are eye opening. Check it out!

What I find pathetic is that Paula and Randy claim to be and charge money to be “Life Coaches” (at least they were) I think they are the ones needing a life coach. Who are they to coach anyone else?

Jerry I can see myself talking to my wife now. “Yes honey our marriage cousling session has been cancelled because of the MINISTERS DIVORCE!” Never hire a skinny cook, never buy a Chevy from a man that drives a Ford, and never get advice on how to improve your marriage from someone getting a divorce.
