Obama Distanced Himself From Rev. Wright

My heart aches for Obama. I really feel for him. He’s a loyal, gentle, kind man. He tried so hard to stand by Rev. Wright.

Rev. Wright gave such a wonderful speech two days ago…and then the devil had him to follow it up with a fiasco at the National Press Club that was just horrifyingly embarrassing. He made an “ass” out of himself (forgive the word but I could not find anything more appropriate).

Good for Obama that he distanced himself from Rev. Wright. It’s a sad situation all around.

In his harshest criticism yet of his former minister, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama said he was outrage by Wright’s comments at the National Press Club Monday, and saddened by the spectacle.

I have been a member of Trinity Church since 1992. I have known Rev. Wright for almost 20 years, he said at a Winston-Salem, North Carolina press conference Tuesday. The person I saw yesterday is not the person I met 20 years ago.  Link

Wow talk about a “Disaster for the Pastor.” I have to wonder though, Obama went to this man’s church for 20 years and supposedly never heard him make these kinds of remarks before. Obama’s rebuke statement, “What particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing,” does make me wonder though if his denunciation was in fact political posturing and fear that he would lose white supporters if he in fact admitted that he believed this or at the very least, shared some of these viewpoints.

Apparently Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Michael Pfleger have been longstanding friends and supporters of Min. Louis Farrakhan. I find it a little hard to believe that Obama and his wife attended this man’s church for 20 years and had no idea that his minister was tight with Min. Farrakahn or that he shares some of the same viewpoints as Farrakhan.

If he is ‘posturing’, I hope for his sake that he comes clean becasue the media is not letting up on this and it will be very ugly and embarassing if it comes out that he not only knew about it, but was onboard with it.

I like your quote Diva…yeah this doesn’t look good for Obama…I don’t know how he is going to do “damage control” over this. You would think Rev Wright is intentionally trying to cause Obama to lose the vote…but hey like you said, I find it HARD to believe that Obama was not aware of who his ex-pastor allows in his “inner circle.”

Interesting to see how this all plays out, but personally, “me thinks” that Obama will not be in the White House in 2008…

Haven’t posted but once before, but had to provide this link found at mediatakeout.com It seems that a Hillary suppporter introduced Rev Wright before his speech to the NPC

“Shortly before he rose to deliver his rambling, angry, sarcastic remarks at the National Press Club Monday, Wright sat next to, and chatted with, Barbara Reynolds.

A former editorial board member at USA Today, she runs something called Reynolds News Services and teaches ministry at the Howard University School of Divinity. (She is an ordained minister).

It also turns out that Reynolds – introduced Monday as a member of the National Press Club “who organized” the event – is an enthusiastic Hillary Clinton supporter”

    your thoughts?

thanks lynn. He was out of control. I thought another “mega minister” loving the limelight, full of himself while he had an audience. My thought is that Obama needed to see this behavior now,and a lesson learned, because he didn’t deny him the “right rev”. How did David say it “my own familiar friend has lifted up his hand against me”. He is now knee deep in politics, I can just imagine how he feels. God forbid if once he’s in the White House and he had him as a “trusted” advisor. I live in Oregon and our primary is May 20, 2008, and Obama has a lot of love and support here and there are less than 1% blacks here. Keep your eyes on Oregon next month. Also, Michelle Obama’s brother was named as head coach of Oregon State University (the Beavers). Keep your eyes on Oregon

Lynn it hurt me to see Obama do that. White America is looking for a reason not to vote for Obama and now they can say it was Rev. Wright and not because he is a black man.

There have also been photos posted on the internet of Rev. Wright at the White House back in Sept. 1998 and posing in pictures with Former President Bill Clinton, so basically the Clintons were extremely familiar with Wright and are just sitting back watching this mess play out, hoping that Hillary will come out on top in the end.

If anyone confronts the Clintons about their ‘association’ with Rev. Wright, they can easily say that he was extended an invite to the White House because he is the leader of a large religious congregation and no one in the media will question it further.

Jeremiah Wright is another example of an insufferably arrogant opportunistic Negro preacher invading the national scene on the coattails of a famous parishoner or a tragedy in the black community. Whether you like Obama or not, Wright has no Right to undermine Obama’s campaign with his mindless ramblings. White people gave AIDS to black people? Please! White folk are dying too. And besides, the Black Church’s silence, IV drug users, the down-low brother and pure ignorance is why AIDS is ravaging our community. Furthermore, being in the ministry all of these years what has Jeremiah Wright done for black folks? I could care less that Oprah attends his church – that gives neither him nor his ministry spiritual credibility. With all of his so called wisdom & knowledge about race in America what has he done but become a stumbling block for another black man? This further confirms for me that black preachers need a job description. They are called to preach the gospel not to insinuate themselves in the lives of God’s people as if they are co-Gods. I don’t know if I am going to vote for Obama, but I do know I am sick of false prophets, hirelings & ignorant church folk! I feel like Marvin right about now. I just wanna holla and throw up both my hands!

Addressing everything would take to much space, but I will say that for every wise thought he speaks he adds 2 ignorant sayings to make himself look more foolish.

Obama knew this man for 20years and NEVER heard him say anything before the press showed the sound bites. Either he’s lying or he only attended the church because it was THE IN CHURCH TO BE SEEN IN.

He should have left well enough alone after the interview with Bill Moyer. Now he just looks like the sterotyped negro preacher trying to soak up all the press he can, no matter how foolish he make look.

Obama did the right thing my dumping this mis-guided angry little man.

Destinyslady said a mouthful and then some!! It is very disheartening to see Reverend Wright undermine Obama at this crucial time in the election process. Why can’t he just go somewhere and shut the *bleep* up for now?? He is entitled to his opinion, but surely he is well aware of what is ultimately at stake.

As for Godlysodier’s comment about finding it hard to believe that Obama did not know who was in his ex-pastor’s (Wright) inner circle, I must say that I don’t know of everyone that my pastor affiliate’s himself with. Also Diva stated that it is hard for her to believe that Obama and his wife were unaware of Wright’s friendship and shared views with Louis Farrakhan. Unless he was parading Farrakhan in front of his congregation, how could his parishioners know of their personal friendship? Perhaps Wrights rhetoric can be construed as inflammatory at times and downright outlandish lately, but he is an African American pastor and his views are going to reflect his ethnicity and experiences. I am positive that Latino pastors and other pastors from diverse backgrounds assume a stance that is directed towards their heritages as well. I have heard a couple of Farrakhan’s teachings and as with most things, there is some truth in some of the things that he says. Reverend Wright should stick with only proclaiming the Word of God and he would avoid this type of backlash in the future. But let’s be honest, don’t the majority of them throw in the word of the ‘Good Pastor’ as well??

I end this by saying that it would be in everyone’s best interest if Reverend Wright went on a hiatus right now and resurface with a more positive message after the final election. It also wouldn’t hurt matters if he apologized for his public displays either. I’m just saying…

The reason I find it hard to believe that Obama didn’t know his Pastor was friends with Min. Farrakhan is becasue let’s face it Rev. Wright is an upfront person. That’s not something he would hide or even feel the need to and even as his friendship with Farrakhan is being talked about in the media, he is not denying it either. He also strikes me as the type of Preacher to say in one of his sermons something to the effect of, “You know I met with Min. Louis Farrakhan the other day for a prayer lunch and we spoke about XYZ.”

I agree, he should really quit commenting on Obama. Min. Farrakhan at least took the high road when he publicly stated his support for Obama and Obama rejected it. He simply said, “We still support him” and kept it on movin.

    Touche’ Diva
I was born at night, but not last night.
But don’t get me wrong. Even though I don’t support Obama, even Stevie Wonder can see that he is being treated unfairly by the media because of his association with his Pastor and unfortunately due to that connection, it may cost him the campaign.

But naive, he is not in knowing about his Pastor’s affiliation with Farrakhan…should it matter concerning him running for President…no, but does it matter to “america” (read between the lines)…unfortunately yes.
