My regular reader, Andrea is really good at sending me news tips and keeping me updated. I had planned to blog about the rash of nooses that apparently have been appearing all over the nation following the Jena Six case, but have been so busy I forgot. Well, thanks to Andrea for reminding me!

Check this out:

On the campus of the University of Maryland, where a third of the students are minorities, a noose is found hanging from a tree in front of a building that houses black organizations.

At the Model Secondary School for the Deaf on the campus of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., seven students, six white and one black, assault a black student and scrawl KKK and swastikas all over him.

And the latest incident happened in New York:

The hate crimes unit is looking into the report of a noose found hanging on a black professor’s office door at Columbia’s Teachers College. Students, faculty and administration expressed outrage that someone would place such a symbol of violent hatred at, of all places, a diverse campus that is known as a haven of multiculturalism

At this point, certain folks think this mess is cute. The reason I have a category on this blog called “Escaped Genies” is because when a situation is not dealt with appropriately, nor cut off at the root, that situation will grow and fester.

Like an evil Genie that has escaped from a bottle, that thing will infest the atmosphere and how will you ever get it back in the bottle, short of divine intervention?

The noose situation was not dealt with appropriately in Louisiana. In fact, it was not even identified as a hate crime. It was at that point that the genie escaped the bottle. And now that it’s loose, it’s having a grand ole time as it dances and splashes its evil magic all over the U.S.

How many more nooses will have to appear before enough is finally enough?
