Monica Conyers has resigned office

Good. Now perhaps Detroit can begin to heal.

Monica Conyers, the chairwoman of the Detroit City Council and wife of House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.), resigned her seat on the Detroit City Council on Monday.
Conyers pleaded guilty Friday to conspiracy to commit bribery in connection with a city sludge-hauling scandal. As a member of the Detroit City Council in 2007, Conyers cast the deciding vote in favor of awarding a $1.2 billion contract to Synagro Technologies Inc.
Conyers is expected to face between three and five years in federal prison.

Good. She thought she was the biggest and baddest on the streets of Detroit… let’s see if the same holds true for her in the pokey.

Good riddance. Now if John Conyers could join her for an early retirement.
