This will be my last blog post until after Chrismas. There is plenty here to read and catch up on, though. My husband and I are going to get our last minute shopping in today, then we are headed to Baltimore County where my family lives and we are going to spend the night there.
My mother is headed for Israel next week, so my goal is to give her cash as a gift so she’ll have plenty to spend. And I’m giving my father cash. You can’t go wrong there.
My husband is a baseball historian/lover. So I knew what he wanted and sure enough, he beat me to the punch by telling me (I was going to surprise him). He wanted a baseball anthology which is on DVD. So that’s what I bought him.
He asked me what I wanted and I could not think of anything. THEN, while in church on Sunday, I found myself again struggling to close my wallet that one of my brothers gave me as a Christmas gift several years ago. And it occured to me that a great gift would be a new leather wallet.
So…it’s Christmas Eve and I am still shopping. LOL! Can any of you identify?
I guess I don’t make too much of Christmas because the point is that it is the birthday of Jesus Christ. In fact, in church yesterday I stood there and reminded the children that “santa” did not die for their sins—JESUS did. And I reminded them that Christmas is the birthday of Jesus. JESUS is the star of Christmas. It was a great service.
So here is wishing you and yours a healthy, safe and VERY MERRY Christmas! Although we know that Jesus was not born on Christmas, it is the day that we acknowledge His birth….so….HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Father!

Merry Christmas everyone, MERRY CHRISMAS.
Dont forget to bring my gift to the Hicktown Dinner. Remember my favorite color is green, I like Classical music, rootbeer floats, Bibles with the spoken words of Jesus in red, and the feel of flease against my skin.
Lynn, was that you standing in line in front of me in JC Penny’s about an hour ago?? Just kidding, I know you don’t live in St. Petersburg, Florida. Have a safe drive to your family gathering and you are so correct about not going wrong by giving cash. Gift cards have been life savers for me.
LOL! Naw, I was in Macy’s an hour ago, getting those last minute gifts. LOL!
Merry Christmas fellow Hicktowners. This year has made me realize how blessed I am. I really had no holiday spirit since losing both my parents (my mom in 2004 and my dad last year). This year though seeing so many of my friends face hard times… (1 lost her father within 2 years of having lost her mother, another suffered a stroke, and one no longer has family in the NY area). It just made me realize how blessed I am and in helping them through their crisis, it really uplifted me and reinforced that this is truly what Christmas is all about!
Diva,
I’m very sorry to hear about the loss of your parents but happy to hear you are holding on and hanging in there. God is a Comforter and there truly is no burden or sorrow that He cannot bear. May the peace that only Jesus, the Prince of Peace can bring, surround and engulf you today and always!
Love,
Lynn
Merry Christmas, Hicktowners!
Greg and I did not make it to my parents’ home last night as planned. We did our last minute shopping, ate, and the rest is history!
So we are getting ready right now. We are going to drive over to Baltimore County and start the gift opening process. We’re going to spend the night there tonight. She and my father are cooking Christmas dinner and those two southerners can throw down in the kitchen!
I’ll check in on the blog later, as my mom does have a computer.

Lynn, save me a bowl of collard greens and mac & cheese! No one has truly had these dishes until they have come from the kitchen of a true southerner! Once again, please have a safe drive and a blessed gathering!
I completely forgot to wish the rest of my neighbors a Merry Christmas! I am wishing you all a Happy New Year as well. I look forward to interacting with you all in 2008 and sharing your thoughts and commentaries on the world.
Thanks Lynn. The collard greens and mac and cheese sound delicious. Whose got the cornbread?
