It looks like our favorite belligerent Mayor IS actually stepping down. Lynn previously announced his hearing date HERE. Kwame Kilpatrick finally pleaded guilty to charges resulting from his sex scandal that cost the city of Detroit $8.4 million, not including mounting legal fees. I previously blogged about Kilpatrick stiffing one of his attorneys in the amount of $80,000 HERE.
Kilpatrick has also finally agreed to resign from office and was fined $1 million, however, Prosecutor Kym Worthy states the resignation won’t take effect for 14 days. SOURCE
Kilpatrick will go to jail on October 28, the day of his sentencing, and serve 120 days, she said.
Also as part of his plea deal, Kilpatrick agrees not to run for public office during his five-year probation. More HERE.

It is a sad day for the black community. Though I felt that this was a ridiculous side show that needed to come to an end, I am nonetheless saddened by the fact that his public disgrace has come on the heels of a line of black politicians who have done illegal things and have been publicly humiliated–Atlanta’s former Mayor Bill Campbell, Ron Sailor, Mr. Shepherd from Louisiana, former NJ Mayor Sharpe James, to name a few. Kwame Kilpatrick shot himself in the heart, literally, with the lies he told under oath. He could have effected so much change in Detroit but he was too arrogant to acknowledge his folly truthfully. I guess he, like many others, did not learn anything from what happened to President Clinton. Kwame Kilpatrick has literally lost everything–his reputation, his law license, his job, and counting. It is indeed a real shame that this young brother had to take himself out like this. Shame.
BlackPolitical, you said a mouthful! This closes the lid on the coffin of yet another Black politician. Shameful indeed.
Your “gift” will take you places that your “character” cannot keep you!
