I heard on the news yesterday about Mariah and Nick Cannon getting married. I waited because I wanted to ensure it was not a hoax. It appears it may be true:

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon aren’t just dreamlovers anymore.

Family member Linda Cannon has confirmed to E! News that the couple are, in fact, married.

“Yes, we know,” she says. “He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him.”

Linda Cannon wouldn’t confirm an earlier report that had the impromptu nuptials taking place yesterday at Carey’s new home in the Bahamas, only that Nick and his platinum-selling girlfriend have made it official.

“I’m not going to give you any details, but we are happy for him.”

Earlier today, a rep for jeweler Jacob & Co. confirmed that Cannon shelled out $2.5 million for the 17-carat finger candy spotted recently on Carey’s left hand.

Heather Mills, the money hungry crybaby who married Paul McCartney for his money, dumped water down the back of McCartney’s lawyer today after only getting $48 million of McCartney’s hard earned money. She was after at least tripple that amount.

I must admit that I was a fan of the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin and was truly sorry about his untimely death. His upbeat, happy, carefree disposition always captured my attention and I enjoyed his program.

Well it appears that both of his children are following in his footsteps and I pray neither gets seriously hurt:

Like father, like son? The 4-year-old son of “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin wasn’t at all alarmed when he was recently bitten by a baby boa constrictor, according to his mother.

Robert, 4, was just bitten by a snake for the first time, his mom said Monday. Bindi, now 9, was first bitten by a snake when she was 18 months old.

“He picked one of them up and it bit him on the finger, and he was so proud to have copped his first hit,” Irwin’s widow, Terri, said Monday at an appearance at FAO Schwarz with her two children to promote a new line of toys.

“He said, ‘I hope it wasn’t venomous,’ so I assured Robert I wouldn’t actually let him play with venomous snakes,” she added.

They are living a lifestyle that I would never embrace but hey, to each his own.

Apparently some of the police officers in Georgia are under the impression that we are in the Wild Wild West. Check this out:

Two off-duty officers from different police departments wounded each other in a gunfight in the middle of a road in an Atlanta suburb, authorities said.

Neither officer’s wounds were life-threatening, police said. Their conditions were not immediately known on Saturday.

Officer Jay Daily, a five-year veteran of the Duluth Police Department, exchanged multiple gunshots Friday afternoon with Fulton County Officer Paul Phillips, police said.

I remember when the show, 60 Minutes highlighted the basketball player, Stephon Marbury and the fact that he had put out a shoe carrying his name that went for $14.98 a pair. He did it out of a sense of compassion because so many poor black males in ghettos all over the U.S. were blowing each other’s brains out while robbing them over $300 - $500 Jordans.

How proud I was to see the story of what Marbury was doing for his people. Tears came to my eyes. Well guess what, folks? Apparently the people in those poor areas are so ignorant and backwards and lost that it is beneath them to wear affordable shoes. They would rather continue killing each other for shoes they cannot afford rather than wear shoes that they can in fact afford:

Knicks Starbury sneaker line has been tossed in the bargain bin. Sportswear seller Steve & Barry’s has slashed the shoe’s price in half in most of their strores - from an already affordable $14.98, down to $7.99 a pair.

This doesn’t bode well for Stephon’s shoe stakes, as he was hoping to expand his sneaker line to other outlets. More importanty, his contract with S&B expires this summer - so Stephon could have trouble selling his soles.

I have long wondered why none of Martin Luther King’s children were married and wondered whether or not any of them would ever bring children into the world to continue his legacy.

My faithful Hicktowner, Ginny sent me a link to an article in AJC that revealed that Martin Luther King III got married privately two years ago and his wife has a baby girl on the way.

Something is horribly wrong with a man pushing 80 years of age is still using hard drugs. Ike Turner dies of a cocaine overdose. Shame on him!

Music legend Ike Turner died of a cocaine overdose, the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office said Wednesday.

“We are listing that he abused cocaine, and that’s what resulted in the cocaine toxicity,” said Paul Parker, chief investigator at the medical examiner’s office.

Turner, whose role as one of rock’s critical architects was overshadowed by his ogrelike image as the man who brutally abused former wife and icon Tina Turner, died December 12, 2007 at his home in suburban San Diego.

He was 76.

Wesley Snipes, the pathetic being who has made it clear via his insults that he has no love nor respect for his own women—is in big trouble. Karma is something, isn’t it?

Attorneys for Wesley Snipes ticked off more than 70 potential character witnesses, including several celebrities, as jury selection began Monday in the actor’s tax fraud and conspiracy trial.

Muhammad Ali, Spike Lee, Tom Brokaw, Barbara Walters, Woody Harrelson, Sylvester Stallone and Gus Van Sant were among the names mentioned.

Snipes, 45, and two co-defendants, both known tax protesters, are accused of conspiring to defraud the U.S. of millions of dollars. The actor allegedly first collaborated with Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas P. Rosile in 2000, then stopped filing tax returns.

Prosecutors say he fraudulently tried to retrieve $11 million in paid 1996 and 1997 taxes and directed his movie companies to stop withholding taxes from employees.

Attorneys for Snipes insist he was misled by unscrupulous advisers and didn’t know he was doing anything wrong. They have tried, unsuccessfully, to separate the three defendants at trial.

Snipes, who starred in the “Blade” movies, faces as many as 16 years in prison if convicted, while Kahn and Rosile face 10 years.

Former Durham prosecutor Mike Nifong has filed for bankruptcy, listing a debt of $180.3 million, according to documents filed Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Durham.The filing comes on the same day the former Duke lacrosse prosecutor and others involved in the case were to submit responses to a federal lawsuit by the three men he sought to prosecute.Nifong lists David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann, as well as three other members of Duke University’s 2006 men’s lacrosse team — Breck Archer, Ryan McFadyen and Matthew Wilson, who named Nifong in a separate federal lawsuit in December — as unsecured creditors, each owed $30 million.

More 30 other lacrosse players from that team are also listed as creditors, each owed $1, as well as other people involved in the nearly yearlong investigation of rape, sexual assault and kidnapping claims by an exotic dancer.

Nifong lists his assets to include his house, car and personal belongings, valued to be at $243,898. He lists his income

I actually feel bad for Nifong. He really appeared to be trying to help the woman who claimed to have been raped. What bothers me is that she got away with telling such a horrific lie. She should have been arrested for filing a false police report and sued.

   Well, it appears that the divorce between Bynum and Weeks is going through. Check this out:

Televangelist Juanita Bynum must meet next month with her estranged husband - who is accused of attacking her in a hotel parking lot - to resolve their pending divorce, according to his divorce attorney.

Randy Kessler said Weeks and his client, Bishop Thomas Weeks III, will sit down on Feb. 18 for mediation, a shorter and less public alternative to a trial. The date is the deadline set by a Gwinnett County Superior Court judge.

Bynum filed for divorce against Weeks on Sept. 27, about a month after he was accused of attacking her in a hotel parking lot. Weeks still faces criminal charges related to the alleged attack.

No trial date has been set in the criminal case, although Weeks and Bynum - along with their attorneys - met Friday in Fulton County Superior Court for a status hearing that lasted most of the day. Details of that hearing were not made public.

The couple has been estranged since June and has not seen each other in months, since Weeks is barred from contacting Bynum under the terms of his release on bond. On Tuesday, Weeks’ attorneys filed a motion forcing Bynum to give her deposition in the divorce proceeding - a step she has postponed repeatedly, effectively stalling the mediation process, Kessler said.

“You can’t settle if you can’t get together,” Kessler said.

Bynum is now scheduled to be deposed the same day as the mediation.
