Howard Stern said what many are thinking about Gabourey Sidibe
Lynn | March 11, 2010 | 2:10 pm | Entertainment, General, Health Watch | 15 Comments

I spoke about this morbidly obese woman HERE.    Her health is clearly being affected by all that weight.  Though Stern (who I actually do NOT like) was crude, what did he say that was false?  Robin, his sidekick, lost her excess weight several years ago.  It CAN be done.

Also, Hollywood needs to stop putting this mammy image out there to depict black women.  When will this Aunt Jemima nonsense go away?  A beautiful, healthy looking young black actress could very well have played that role.  Don’t go out there and find someone so huge that she can barely fit in her seat at the Oscars.

Let’s stop coddling these type of people.  If she does not stop eating all that ice cream, pie, cookies, cake and chocolate, can you imagine the shape she’ll be in by the time she’s 30?  She won’t be able to move.  This is serious.  Sorry, but I have to side with Howard and Robin on this one.

Gabourey Sidibe morbidly obese and bad role model
Lynn | February 27, 2010 | 3:41 pm | Health Watch | 8 Comments

I understand that obesity is partially hereditary. I get that. But what I don’t get is morbid obesity. To be fat is one thing. To be so obese that it’s unpleasant for people to even look at you is another.

With all the slender, beautiful black girls out there who can act, are you telling me that we have to deal with another mammy image which is the likes of this Gabourey Sidibe? This is ridiculous and I’m not going to pretend to be in agreement with this.

What is she eating? When was the last time she saw a bowl of soup? Soup will cut the appetite, plus bean and vegetable based soups are delicious and filling. I don’t believe all that weight is jumping onto her body from Mars, okay? It’s time to turn down the plate.

When you get to a point where your panties are a size 200 and your bras are off the scale, it’s time to lose weight. When your dress size goes beyond the “x”s and into the heaven only knows what, it’s time to say “no” to the icecream and banana pudding.

Enough is enough here. Where do you go from the type of morbid obesity that Gabourey is experiencing? Do you explode?

When I look at her, I see shortness of breath. I see diabetes and heart disease. I see high blood pressure. Her handlers should be ashamed of themselves. They need to be talking her into the nearest gym and she needs a nutritionist.

In my opinion she is an embarrassment and a bad influence on youth. Simple as that.

Haiti and the filthy drinking water
Lynn | January 22, 2010 | 9:44 pm | General, Health Watch | 3 Comments

Have you ever taken water for granted? I understand that there are places throughout the world and even in the U.S. where the water sources are contaminated and unfit for consumption.

I must admit though that I often take water for granted. I can buy it or drink it from the filter in my fridge.

Can you imagine, though—-filthy water with all types of nastiness in it? When I think about it, and what the people of Haiti are going through at this moment regarding their contaminated water, I just pause and say Lord, have mercy!

If people do not get clean water, there could be epidemics of water-borne diseases that could greatly increase the death toll. But the US is now sending 10,000 troops and seems to be prioritizing “security” over much more urgent, life-and-death needs. This in addition to the increase of 3,500 UN troops scheduled to arrive.

I believe that from this moment forward I will no longer take water for granted. I vow to drink more of it since I am blessed with its availability. So much to be thankful for. I pause to thank God for water!

Blacks, heart disease and vitamin D

No matter what negative disease or ailment hits the planet, blacks always get the worst end of the stick. Well at least we may be able to do something about heart disease.

Potential Cancer Cure
Lynn | December 1, 2009 | 6:41 am | Health Watch | 5 Comments

I believe that God has a cure here on earth for every disease out there. It’s up to humans to find what God has already placed here. Check this out:

Doctors may have discovered an unlikely tool to kill cancer cells: tiny magnetic discs, too small to be seen by the naked eye. The discs are just 60 billionths of a meter thick, said the French news agency AFP.
The so-called “nanodiscs” are made of an iron-nickel alloy, the agency reported. When they are subjected to a magnetic field, the discs vibrate. This movement damages the membranes of cancer cells and causes them to self-destruct

Black woman goes to Panama to get blue eyes
Lynn | September 3, 2009 | 6:50 pm | Freaks on Display, Health Watch | 13 Comments

——————————————————————–
Okay, watch the video and then return so that we may discuss this nonsense:

You watched it? Good.

Um…where exactly do I start?

1. This black woman saved up $8,000 so that she could take a trip to Panama to have them put permanent blue color in her eyes.

2. Although she mentioned that there was another $2,000 added on to make it $10,000 what she DID NOT mention was the fact that she had to pay airfare and hotel expenses. Also, clearly she took off time from work to have that procedure performed.

Is this where black women are? Is this what we have come to? I have been tracking a group of nutty black women on the internet who have started a cult called the FASUM. The purpose of the cult is to convince black women to “leave” the black race, stop calling themselves black and to hunt down a white man to marry. It’s really embarrassing.

Last month I showed a picture of a group of them standing in line at a conference hoping to find white men to meet. Sadly, white men were not interested in attending so it ended up being a group of desperate black hens chasing down white men. They were stood up. Again, embarrassing.

Sisters, we don’t have time to crack up. I’m very serious here. Somebody in the black race needs to stay sane.

One thing I don’t play with is my eyes. I need to be able to see so I don’t play with my eyes. I remember back in the 1990’s when colored contacts were in style. I’d see black women as dark as that street out there with blue and green contacts in their eyes, hair weaves, and strutting down the street looking like clowns.

Then, I remember eye doctors coming on t.v. warning women that those colored contacts are not safe and they often lead to infections, etc. Did black women care? No! They were willing to risk their sight to have those blue and green eyes. Very, very sad.

When will the indoctrination end?

I have zero sympathy for the woman in the video above. $10,000 + dollars to get permanent eye color? And now she looks like a witch and might go blind? When will it end?

For the record, PLEASE don’t have anyone put any dye, etc. in your eyes! Gee wiz!

Health Insurance Debate has republicans fearing for old people
Lynn | August 11, 2009 | 10:19 am | Health Watch | 2 Comments

The racists, birthers and tea baggers are really making themselves sick. Their new pet project is to nurture their lie that the purpose of the health care bill is to kill old people. It is impossible to reason with these people:

The non-partisan Factcheck.org site says its e-mail inbox has been “exploding” recently with queries asking whether this provision encourages suicide at the end of life. The answer, Factcheck.org said, is no. “Page 425 does deal with counseling sessions for seniors, but it is far from recommending a “Logan’s Run” approach to Medicare spending. In fact, it requires Medicare to cover counseling sessions for seniors who want to consider their end-of-life choices –- including whether they want to refuse or, conversely, require certain types of care. The claim that the bill would ‘push suicide’ is a falsehood.”

SOURCE

I will say though that I don’t understand why the health care bill is being pushed through so quickly. The Obama administration has only been in place 6 months. We need to have that bill explained to us and in my opinion, it’s being pushed through too quickly.

Is Cereal Safe to eat?
Lynn | July 23, 2009 | 10:03 pm | Health Watch | Comments closed

I am in the process of starting a series on health. Black health is a serious issue in this nation.

I belong to a group called Women Who Launch (for women business owners) and saw the following article written by a member:

PRESS HERE for some interesting information about boxed cereal.

After I complete my box of Raisin Bran that’s in my pantry, I think I’ll call it a day on boxed cereal and stick with my Grits and Cream of Wheat (I don’t like Oatmeal).

More and More Black Americans Are Obese
Lynn | July 16, 2009 | 7:45 pm | Health Watch | 3 Comments

There is now a “Hicktown Eatery” on this blog. Why? Because I want to share healthy recipes with readers and I want readers to feel free to come in and share healthy recipes.  Black folks are self destructing by spoon.  It’s time to turn down that plate.  Soul food is fine sometimes but not all the time.  Junk food is fine on a very rare occasion but is being consumed and fed to children all too often.

Check this out:

Nearly 36% of black Americans are obese — much more than other major racial or ethnic groups — and that gap exists in most states, a new federal study finds.

With obesity comes a myriad of diseases from high blood pressure to heart failure to cancer to diabetes to strokes….and so on and so forth.

It’s not business as usual any more, folks. We need to be proactive about our health.

I plan to do a series.

Fiber and its important to the body

Calorie counting

Fat in the diet

And so on and so forth…

Hicktowners who are good in the area of nutrition, please assist in giving me ideas or feel free to write an article on health. I don’t want to just sit back and shrub my shoulders. I truly want to get proactive in getting the word out there.
