Howard Stern said what many are thinking about Gabourey Sidibe
Lynn | March 11, 2010 | 2:10 pm | Entertainment, General, Health Watch | 15 Comments

I spoke about this morbidly obese woman HERE.    Her health is clearly being affected by all that weight.  Though Stern (who I actually do NOT like) was crude, what did he say that was false?  Robin, his sidekick, lost her excess weight several years ago.  It CAN be done.

Also, Hollywood needs to stop putting this mammy image out there to depict black women.  When will this Aunt Jemima nonsense go away?  A beautiful, healthy looking young black actress could very well have played that role.  Don’t go out there and find someone so huge that she can barely fit in her seat at the Oscars.

Let’s stop coddling these type of people.  If she does not stop eating all that ice cream, pie, cookies, cake and chocolate, can you imagine the shape she’ll be in by the time she’s 30?  She won’t be able to move.  This is serious.  Sorry, but I have to side with Howard and Robin on this one.

Woman caught driving while shaving a “sensitive” area
Lynn | March 8, 2010 | 8:46 pm | General, Personal Responsibility | 2 Comments

I’ve heard of the following:

No driving while drunk

No driving while tipsy

No driving while drinking

No driving while drugging

No driving while under the influence of anything mind altering

No driving while reading

No driving while texting

No driving while talking on cell phone

No driving while breast feeding

No driving while applying makeup

Um….time to add a new one to the list:

No driving while shaving your crotch.  Check this out:

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a two-vehicle crash Tuesday at Mile Marker 21 on Cudjoe Key was caused by a 37-year-old woman driver who was shaving her bikini area while her ex-husband took the wheel from the passenger seat.

“She said she was meeting her boyfriend in Key West and wanted to be ready for the visit,” Trooper Gary Dunick said. “If I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have believed it. About 10 years ago I stopped a guy in the exact same spot … who had three or four syringes sticking out of his arm. It was just surreal and I thought, ‘Nothing will ever beat this.’ Well, this takes it.”

If that weren’t enough, Megan Mariah Barnes was not supposed to be driving and her 1995 Ford Thunderbird was not supposed to be on the road.

The day before the wreck, Barnes was convicted in an Upper Keys court of DUI with a prior and driving with a suspended license, said Monroe County Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne. Barnes was ordered to impound her car, and her driver’s license was revoked for five years, after which time she must have a Breathalyzer ignition interlock device on any vehicle she drives, Dunne said. Barnes also was sentenced to nine months’ probation.

Prayers for Marie Osmond, son committed suicide
Lynn | February 28, 2010 | 7:24 pm | General | 1 Comment

What is going on lately in the news with so many people committing suicide?

Prayers to Marie Osmond whose 18 year old son [Michael Blosil] committed suicide over the weekend. Check the CNN website for details.

Very sad.

Prayers for Lou Gossett, Jr.

He never got the recognition he deserved. His masterful role in Officer and a Gentleman earned him an Oscar but never any other decent movie roles. Sad.

Now he has prostate cancer. Keep him in your prayers, Christians.

NYDaily News responds and another note from Neil Belloff
Lynn | February 9, 2010 | 5:45 pm | General | 5 Comments

I just received a note from Barbara Ross of NYDaily News

Ms. Green
I believe a judge tossed the sex related charges and I think the prosecutors subsequently dropped the rest. I no longer work in the courts. My colleague, Melissa Grace, can be reached at MGrace@NYDailyNews.com or 212 210 1550. I think we were going to do a story but Melissa was extremely busy the day the Silber story broke and I am not sure if it ever got into the paper. I hope this helps. The other way to get an answer is to call the DA’s press office: 212 335 9400.
All the best
Barbara Ross

I also heard from Neil Beloff again:

Dear Ms. Green:

I suggest you speak with an attorney. My e-mail to you is not harassment. You are the owner of Hicktownpress and you are therefore responsible for its content. We have made a simple and reasonable request since the information contained on your website is no longer accurate. Again, we would appreciate it if you would take down these postings. We would also appreciate it if you would refrain from posting our communications to you. I would be pleased to speak with you further about this matter if you so desire.

Sincerely

Neil Belloff

NOTE: Can anyone explain to me why Mr. Belloff is not contacting the other blogs that dealt with this story and why he has chosen not to contact NY Daily News?

I have placed him on my “blocked email” list.

For the record:

a. It is NOT against the law to post or quote about an active case

b. Diva simply quoted the NY Daily News

I would suggest that the parties contact Daily News AND the other blogs that posted about this story.

“Dr.” Conrad Murray charged with manslaughter
Lynn | February 9, 2010 | 8:32 am | General | 1 Comment

Involuntary manslaughter? Huh!? Link

Michael clearly will not receive any justice in this case. I’m just very sorry that no one was able to reach Michael. He was in need of some deep and profound spiritual help. He turned to “medicine” instead of turning to the Lord and for that, I am sad. Wish I knew him. I would have tried my best to help him.

Miss you, Michael! I won’t spend too much time concentrating on “Dr.” Conrad Murray. My understanding is that he does not even bother to pay child support. So Conrad Murray will not get much coverage here. Let the dead bury the dead.

Here is one of my favorite Michael songs. He was young, innocent, and normal at the time that he blew it away!

Hicktownpress contacted by a Neil Belloff
Lynn | February 9, 2010 | 1:12 am | General | 2 Comments

I received the following odd note from a Neil Belloff regarding the Zalman Silber case:

Dear Ms. Green:

This firm represents Mr. Zalman Silber. I have reviewed the information contained on your website, hicktownpress.com. As you know, all charges against Mr. Silber in all proceedings have been dismissed. However, when one Googles “Zalman Silber”, your negative news items and blogs appear prominently. Mr. Silber is a successful businessman and philanthropist and obviously the negative publicity he has received over this ordeal has been damaging to his reputation and business pursuits. We would very much appreciate it if the negative news stories and blogs appearing on your website could be removed as they are no longer accurate or relevant. Kindly let me know if this can be accomplished.

Kind regards,

Neil S. Belloff

I will explain to you all why this note is peculiar. See my response to him below:

1. Your letter is a form of harrassment

2. The website www.hicktownpress.com simply quoted from Daily News.

3. Take your gripes to Daily News, as the writer “Diva” simply quoted them.

4. If you need Daily News’ contact information, I’ll be happy to send it

This has got to be the weirdest situation this blog has ever encountered. Diva simply quoted from a HUGE newspaper. It is NOT against the law to quote an active case and at the time, the case was quite active. To my knowledge, no one from Daily News has even printed an update on the story.

I find it beyond odd that no one is going to Daily News regarding this story as THEY are the source of the story that Diva simply quoted. Note also that the Daily News reporter even has his (or her) email address listed at the bottom of the article.

WHY are they coming to me and not the source? I contacted Daily News this evening to ask them whether or not they know of any updates on the story and I asked them whether or not they had been contacted. Hopefully I’ll get a response.

Odd, indeed. For the record, both Mr. Belloff and Mr. Silber are welcome to come here and share their story or any remarks and I’ll be happy to post. My search for an update from a legitimate news source has turned up empty.

PRESS HERE for the full list of Daily News articles on this case and then tell me why I’m the one being contacted.

DC and Maryland snowed in
Lynn | February 7, 2010 | 1:11 pm | General | 9 Comments

Thanks goodness I had the frame of mind and forethought to go shopping last week.

To be honest with you, I really had not taken the meteorologists seriously when they indicated that 20 inches were expected. And quite frankly, when I went shopping, it had nothing to do with the prediction of snow. I simply knew that we needed more food.

Sure enough, we are snowed in…and more snow is expected on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thanks to the Good Lord. I’m sure the snow has a purpose. It certainly is beautiful!

Haiti and the filthy drinking water
Lynn | January 22, 2010 | 9:44 pm | General, Health Watch | 3 Comments

Have you ever taken water for granted? I understand that there are places throughout the world and even in the U.S. where the water sources are contaminated and unfit for consumption.

I must admit though that I often take water for granted. I can buy it or drink it from the filter in my fridge.

Can you imagine, though—-filthy water with all types of nastiness in it? When I think about it, and what the people of Haiti are going through at this moment regarding their contaminated water, I just pause and say Lord, have mercy!

If people do not get clean water, there could be epidemics of water-borne diseases that could greatly increase the death toll. But the US is now sending 10,000 troops and seems to be prioritizing “security” over much more urgent, life-and-death needs. This in addition to the increase of 3,500 UN troops scheduled to arrive.

SOURCE

I believe that from this moment forward I will no longer take water for granted. I vow to drink more of it since I am blessed with its availability. So much to be thankful for. I pause to thank God for water!
