Bill Cosby & Dr. Alvin Poussaint on Meet the Press

Did you catch Bill Cosby and Alvin Poussaint on Meet the Press? I heard much of it. Unlike many blacks, I actually like Bill Cosby, his views and the truths he puts out there.

No, it’s not always pleasant to hear that black men need to take care of their babies and that the black family unit needs repairing. No, black on black violence is not easy to digest. But Bill Cosby takes on such topics and tells it like it is. I like that:

I am right alongside you as well. I am a fan of Mr. Cosby. He expresses a genuine concern for the black community. People that can not deal with his honesty on our community, are most likely the ones are causing our problems in our communities. I applaud Mr. Cosby for his efforts in raising awareness and I support that brother in all that he does no matter how much people may consider him to be an “Uncle Tom”.

Here’s a copy of a message I sent to some personal friends of mine yesterday. (personal portions removed)

I just finished watching the video online direct from the source:
    http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-US&brand=msnbc&vid=e10461f7-89e1-415c-aa58-80d1b6f8066e

Physiologist Alvin Poussaint, M.D. is a Liberal cry baby. Crying about guns, mandatory sentencing, racial profiling, saying don’t beat your kids because it makes angry children who accept violence as a way of dealing with problems and so on… Does Alvin Poussaint even have kids? He DOES NOT HAVE a wedding ring on his hand.

I think you guys should be slow to play up Cosby’s name, although strong on the same message he proclaims. Let’s keep in mind, Cosby has about as many women accusing him of DRUGGING AND RAPING THEM as Michael Jackson has kids saying he molested them. I don’t think all the women are lying any more than those kids.

I’m not going to proclaim Cosby’s name only to watch him go down hard later for what he’s been able to cover up. I’ll proclaim the message and be careful how I use Cosby’s name. Yea I think the book is great and all, but still, this man is accused many times over of disrespecting women himself.

I like Bill Cosby’s platform on how we need to improve as a people. I agree with Marcus that those who are so up in arms about what he speaks on are part of the problem and not the solution.

I also was saddened and disappointed at the allegations about him reportedly drugging and raping women, but then again show me one of OUR Leaders who is without spot nor blemish? (Messy Jesse with his baby out of wedlock, Rev. Al with his mistress before the divorce, etc.).

I just had a chance to watch the show and I am in agreement with his message. No one or no group is going to fly in on a magic carpet and make it all better for us. It starts with us making the necessary changes needed. Unfortunately, that message is falling on deaf ears with many in the younger generation.
