Edward Brooke

I’ve never been a fan or admirer of Barbara Walters. And although I’m also not a fan of Star Jones, I don’t like how Barbara threw Star under the bus. In short, I don’t care for Barbara at all and have always been suspicious of why that gal cannot keep a man. She goes from man to man to man, constantly getting divorced.

In addition to her serial divorces, this chick also has no respect for marriage in general. Look at how she gushes about her affair with the married former U.S. Senator and Uncle Tom, Edward Brooke:

After three decades of keeping mum, Barbara Walters is disclosing a past affair with married U.S. Senator Edward Brooke, whom she remembers as “exciting” and “brilliant.”

Barbara Walters says in her new book that she had an affair with Massachusetts Sen. Edward Brooke.

Appearing on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” scheduled to air Tuesday, Walters shares details of her relationship with Brooke that lasted several years in the 1970s, according to a transcript of the show provided to The Associated Press.

A moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967, Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate. Both he and Walters knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined his career as well as hers, Walters says.

At the time, the twice-divorced Walters was a rising star in TV news and co-host of NBC’s “Today” show, but would soon jump to ABC News, where she has enjoyed unrivaled success. Her affair with Brooke, which never before came to light, had ended before he lost his bid for a third term in 1978.

Brooke later divorced, and has since remarried. Calls to a listing for Brooke in Miami by The Associated Press were not immediately returned Thursday.

Wonder how they kept it a secret for so long? Guess they were sneaking around in grimy, nasty hotel and motel rooms. Ush!

Girl, I got this tidbit from the Washington Post..

“Want more details? We obtained an early copy of the book. They met at an N.Y.C. restaurant in ‘73 when she was in a busy dating phase. “Ed Brooke was simply the most attractive, sexiest, funniest, charming, and impossible man.” How so? He used to joke that “I was the oldest woman he had ever been attracted to.” (She writes she was tempted to respond, “Oh yeah? Well, you are the blackest man I have ever been with.”)

“I was excited, fascinated, intrigued and infatuated,” Walters writes. She badly wanted to marry him, and her ultimatum prodded him to seek a divorce, she says. But friends warned the fraught ethical and racial issues could ruin both their careers; they broke up before he lost his 1978 reelection bid. She went on to almost marry Alan Greenspan, but that’s another story. Also: Got serious with John Warner in the ’90s, but “I could never imagine myself as the wife of a senator living in Washington.” (What changed, Babs?)

Brooke, now remarried, did not respond to calls to his Florida home for comment.”

Interesting how she thought he was the ‘blackest man’ she’d ever been with, but knew not to say it. I wonder what made her come out with it now?

Isn’t she the 3rd or 4th oldest woman in the world now?

  3. DeeLove says:

I am also wondering why she has to come out with it now? So we gain from her disclosure the knowledge that she is a home wrecker (she gave him an ultimatum that led to his divorce) and in the end she didn’t even end up marrying him. This shows me that even before the Star Jones fiasco, she was already a cold hearted, calculating wench!

    LOL @ Energize

    “cold hearted, calculating wench”
    whew DeeLove…slang those adjectives girl!

here, wasn’t it Barbara that said “I will not watch another one of Mel Gibsons movies, due to his racial slur” Now i am confused, his were words and hers were actions, how does she find herself better than him? She is nothing but a POS as far as i am concerned.

Welcome MrsEvoBreeze, and thank you for that comment. I nearly forgot about her tirade against Mel Gibson.

I get the sense that this book is nothing more than a brag book of her sins. Some people like to tell the whole world of their misdeeds and reflect on the ‘wonderful’ things they were able to do and not get caught. I doubt she sees anything wrong with that affair and the others she probably had. I can tell from the previous comments she ain’t fooling anyone but herself. I also am not surprised that the great ‘O’ would endorse her book. Get as many as possible to read this trash and pollute their minds. If I didn’t have to buy it I say let’s have book burning party, but I am not giving that woman my money.

I knew it would only be a matter of time before Star blasted Baba Wawa for blasting her on Oprah the other day and making the comments about her in her book. Check this out…
