During the Grammy awards, Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a queen. I’m certain she was reading from a tele-prompter but either way, there is nothing wrong with calling Tina a queen.

In response, Aretha Franklin (queen of “soul”) became offended and actually called Beyonce out about it. Apparently she believes that she owns the term, queen. Here is the statement that Aretha lowered herself to make:

“I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce. However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.”

That, in my opinion, was silly. Mathew Knowles agrees:

Mathew Knowles is a little upset over Aretha Franklin taking offense to his daughter Beyonce using the word “queen” during her Grammy performance with Tina Turner.

In a statement released Wednesday, Papa Knowles said he will not allow Beyonce to even comment about the uproar.

“As a manager I am not taking something this ridiculous to Beyonce,” Knowles stated. “Beyonce referred to Tina Turner as a ‘queen.’ Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?”

In his statement, Mathew Knowles responded:

Something this ridiculous – it’s childish, it’s unprofessional. And it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.

I agree with you, Mr. Knowles!
