Aretha Elevated to “Empress of all Music”

Yesterday I talked about the fact that Aretha had called out Beyonce for referring to Tina Turner as a “queen”. I thought it was inappropriate. I love Aretha but I believe it was beneath her to do that.

In response, somebody has elevated Aretha to “Empress” of all music. Hey, you go girl!

After the storm in a tea cup at the Grammys, when Beyoncé referred to Tina Turner as “The Queen,” which upset Franklin since “The Queen of Soul” is a title she has long laid claim too, it was notable that the Nokia Theatre master of ceremonies kicked the performance off by introducing the legendary singer as the “Empress of All Music” (top that Beyoncé). The night’s performance seemed effortless to Franklin, who didn’t break a sweat as she busted out classic after classic.

By the way, I just ran into one of the most beautiful renditions of “Ooh Baby Baby” I have ever heard. It was by Aretha Franklin. Sadly, the video does not capture the entire song but there is enough here to make the hair on your arms rise. Beautiful!

And on Sunday (tomorrow) PRESS HERE to hear her singing Blessed Assurance.

I do not believe it was “beneath” Aretha Franklin to point out a big blunder. Beyonce’s father had better be happy that another singer, who was serious about her title, is not alive. I’m speaking of “The Queen of the Blues,” Dinah Washington, who would have cussed Beyonce AND her father out and probably slapped a couple of faces!

Aretha was gracious and I’m happy she stood up and said something. I’m sure that “mistake” won’t be made again. This type of snub has to be nipped in the bud. DON’T MESS WITH THE ULTIMATE DIVA!!!!
